Rhetorical Precis

In Brian Latimer’s news article “Immigrants Qualifying for Executive Actions Deeply ‘Embedded’ in U.S” (March 11, 2016), he advocates how most illegal immigrants in the U.S who qualify for Obama’s executive action programs have lived here for years and are living a stable life. The author first supports his claim by explaining what the DACA and DAPA programs are and how they contribute to the eligibility of millions of immigrants; Latimer then follows with a visual where he depicts relationships and employment statistics on DAPA qualifiers; and to conclude he addresses how effective these program will be however, they are put on hold until the supreme court rules in favor of the Obama administration. Latimer’s purpose is to explain what the programs are under Obama’s executive action in order for immigrants to be fully aware of what’s to come when the Supreme Court finalizes its decision. Latimer has a liberal audience in mind because he targets those who would be affected by the Supreme Court’s ruling in June.
